As a consequence of hot rolling processes, as well as the exposition of the steel rolls to atmospheric conditions, a phenomena known as superficial oxidation is produced (figure 1). As this oxide accumulates a layer of unstable material builds up on the surface damaging the substratum and any other devices used to process the strip.
